영어문장 끊어 읽기 학습

영어문장을 독해할 때는 아래 각 요소 앞에서 일단 끊고 본다.


1) to 부정사 구문

2) 전치사

3) 콤마(,) ........ 

4) be 동사를 비롯한 동사, 조동사

5) 관계대명사

6) 접속사(and, but ...)

7) 관사

President Barack Obama / was / among the many people / who paid tribute / to Steve Jobs, calling the Apple co-founder a visionary / and great American innovator.
 

"Steve / was / among the greatest / of American innovators -- brave enough / to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, / ***and talented enough to do it," Obama said of Jobs, who died on Wednesday.

** 우리들은 학교에서 enough to ~ 를 ~할 만큼 충분하다로 배웠지만, 실제 to think 이하가 다시 enough 와 결합한 구조이다. 

*** 접속사의 경우도, 보통 and 까지 해석을 하고 다시 이어지는 부분을 해석하는데, and 앞에서 끊도록 한다.
 

"The world / has lost / a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve's success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented."

The president was joined by political, technology, entertainment and business leaders around the world in paying tribute to Jobs.
